In a bid to speed up the time it takes for ambulances to arrive at their destinations, many ambulances are now being fitted with some of the latest satellite navigation technology on the market.
This new scheme is set to cost around 10 million pounds and will see all of the ambulances in Wales finally fitted with their own Sat Navs. Currently it is only the Welsh Ambulance Service that does not have this technology installed and many drivers have been using their own personal Sat Navs from home.
Not only will this new technology help ambulances to arrive at their destinations much faster but it will allow the ambulance controllers to pin point the nearest available ambulance to a 999 call. This new move will potentially help to save many more lives and will see the quality of the service dramatically improved.
Even though ambulance drivers are already very skilled, there can be some occasions where something may go wrong and lead to the ambulance being led down the wrong way. With the help of the Sat navs this threat should be eliminated and reduce the amount of other problems that the ambulance service encounters.
Since implementing this technology on some ambulances, the response time has been cut dramatically and has helped many people in potentially fatal situations. The paramedics who drive the ambulances are all very happy with the decision to fit the ambulances with this technology and openly welcome it. The new technology has also helped to raise the moral of the staff.
